Whether you need a root canal or your tooth is severely discolored – tooth-colored dental crowns can restore the aesthetics and function of your natural tooth. While they are certainly a great restoration option, it can take two appointments to place a traditional crown. Typically, your dentist needs to take an impression of your teeth and send it off to a lab for your crown to be created – while placing a temporary crown for protection in between appointments. However, we recently discussed single-day crowns using CEREC technology – so some of you may be wondering, “do you offer same day crowns?” And yes, we do!
Who Qualifies For Same Day Crowns?
If your dentist recommends that you get a dental crown to restore the health and function of your tooth, then you qualify for same day crowns. The difference between the traditional crown placement process and CEREC is the advanced use of technology. It actually makes the entire process more comfortable (and shorter) – so it can work for everyone.
How Does CEREC Work?
Instead of using a traditional dental impression of your teeth, CEREC uses modern technology to form your crown from a digital image of your tooth. Using computer aided design (and computer aided manufacturing), CEREC allows your dentist to mold your dental crown in their office – within just a couple hours!
Same Day Crowns Vs. Traditional Lab-Created Crowns
One of the biggest concerns when it comes to same day crowns, is their durability in comparison to traditional dental crowns. The difference between the two is the way they’re created and manufactured, not the material they’re made of. Both same day crowns and traditional can be made from several different materials (although patients typically opt for tooth-colored composite-resin).
