Kinney Creek Brewery
This brewery and tap room holds the distinct honor of being the first official brewery in Rochester since the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. Kinney Creek started as a labor of love in the owner’s home, and has since expanded to include a regular on-tap selection of 12 regular brews (including house-made root beer) and 13 seasonal brews. Try a flight (a beer sampler, for the newbies) before settling down to a pint of your favorite. If you get hungry while you’re there, Kinney Creek Brewery doesn’t serve food but you can bring your own or have takeout delivered.
Post Town Winery
This local favorite proves that cold-weather viniculture can be a reality . . . and a delicious one at that! Although they’ve been growing grapes on their vineyard in Olmstead County since 2005, the 2000+ vines began producing grapes in 2008. Their selection includes crisp whites like the 2009 Prairie Gold, the rose-style First Blush, and the seductive Pinot-Noir inspired Prairie Cougar. Stop by during their summer hours, Fridays 4-8pm, Saturdays 3-7pm, and Sundays 1-4pm.
Salem Glen Vineyard and Winery
Regionally grown grapes and a family-owned winery located on a rustic former dairy farm just to the Southwest of Rochester pair up to create a fabulous selection of small-batch wines. Salem Glen produces a range of wines to fit the tastes of both experienced wine-lovers as well as the novice palate. Stop by for a full tasting, a tour, or schedule a private event on their sprawling, lush grounds. Salem Glen also features a small menu of noshes, including cheese and fruit, bread and olive oil, and chocolate and fruit to complement your wine selection.
