At Calcagno Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, Dr. Gilly Calcagno utilizes the latest dental technology to reveal and diagnose oral health conditions such as tooth decay, oral cancer, bone loss, and gum disease. At our Rochester dentist office we use digital X-rays, an intra-oral camera, and DIAGNOdent to detect potential oral health problems and design a treatment plan for your unique needs.
Digital X-rays in Rochester
Producing up to 90% less radiation, digital X-rays are favored among many dentists and doctors throughout the country. Even though the radiation emitted by traditional X-rays is minimal, digital X-rays reduce radiation emission much more and allow Dr. Calcagno to transmit X-ray images to a computer monitor. Because the image is captured by a digital sensor, Dr. Calcagno can zoom in on specific parts of the image to examine your oral health in greater detail. She can also display these images to you to help explain her diagnosis and provide patient education.
Intra-Oral Camera
Used during dental checkups, an intra-oral camera allows Dr. Calcagno to take a comprehensive look at your oral health. An intra-oral camera takes digital images of the inside of your mouth which are then uploaded to a computer. Dr. Calcagno uses the images captured by the intra-oral camera to assess the health of your teeth and gums—even at the back of your mouth. We also use the intra-oral camera to show patients the effectiveness of treatment.
DIAGNOdent Cavity Detection
Dr. Calcagno practices conservative dentistry. This means that she uses technology to reveal oral health problems before they advance into more serious conditions. DIAGNOdent cavity detection allows our team to reveal tooth decay at its earliest stages. DIAGNOdent is a diode laser that illuminates areas of tooth decay that may not have been noticeable by dental X-rays alone. Early cavity detection is important for preventing the need for costly and invasive dental work in the future.
