We can chip a tooth for a variety of reasons, from a sports-related accident to biting down on ice or a popcorn kernel. When this happens, many people assume they will need multiple visits to the dentist to completely repair the tooth. However, at Calcagno Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we can accomplish this in a short time with dental bonding. Can dental bonding repair teeth in a day? Who qualifies for this procedure?
Same Day Dentistry
How does dental bonding work? When a tooth becomes damaged or has an esthetic issue, we will place several layers of composite resin. We will first etch the surface of the tooth so the material will better adhere to the surface. This metal-free material can be shaded to blend with the surrounding tooth structure and is the same composite we use for tooth-colored fillings. We cure the resin with a light and sculpt and mold the material in the process and polish the tooth afterward, ensuring an attractive and solid restoration. The entire procedure can be completed in a single visit. In many cases, this represents a more cost-effective alternative to porcelain veneers or dental crowns.
When Do I Need Bonding?
We may recommend bonding to address a number of cosmetic imperfections, including:
- Permanent discoloration
- Chips or fractures
- Misshapen teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Pits or grooves in the tooth surface
If you think you may benefit from dental bonding, then contact our office. We will carefully examine your teeth to assess the cause and extent of your cosmetic issues. We will decide if this is the best option for correcting your smile issues. We’re also happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.
