Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Cancer
Question: How is oral cancer detected?
Answer: We will use technology and a visual scan to look for possible warning signs of the problem. We do this during a screening, which we will be providing free during the moth of April. Simply call our office for more information and to take advantage of this crucial preventive treatment.
Question: How often should I have a screening?
Answer: We recommend a screening as part of your normal checkup, at least once every six months. We suggest a regular visit as catching the disease in the earliest stages is essential for improving the odds of a full recovery.
Question: What are the symptoms?
Answer: There are several symptoms of the disease, nearly all related to changes or sores in and around the mouth. Common warning signs include rough spots or lumps in the throat and mouth, chronic hoarseness or numbness, red and white speckled patches in the mouth, persistent bleeding, problems swallowing or eating, dramatic weight loss, or sudden changes in voice. If you recognize any of these possible symptoms then please see a dental professional as soon as possible for a screening.
Question: Will I need a biopsy?
Answer: If cancerous or precancerous spots are discovered we may recommend seeing a medical professional for a biopsy. From there, your doctor can discuss your treatment options. Id you have any questions or concerns please contact us.
