Did you know you have options when it comes to treating misalignment? Many people assume traditional metal orthodontics is the only choice for correcting uneven teeth. However, recent advances can allow some people to enjoy clear smile correction. Which will best benefit your smile, clear braces or metal braces?
Metal Braces
How do metal orthodontics work? They use tension caused by adjusting arch wires connected to brackets on the teeth. As the dentist or orthodontist adjusts the wire’s tension, the teeth are moved to more optimal placement. Teens and adults can benefit from this treatment, which can address both minor and severe misalignment. Patients will need to wear them for about a year-and-a-half to two years. Metal orthodontics is one of the more common options for correcting alignment issues.
Clear Braces
Clear braces don’t use brackets or arch wires. Instead, impressions and photographs will be taken of the teeth. At a special Clear Aligner Systems lab, experts will create a series of clear plastic aligners. The patient wears them everyday, typically for between 20 and 22 hours. They can be removed before meals, so you won’t need to change your diet. You can also brush and floss easier since you can simply remove your orthodontics. The procedure requires fewer office visits as well, saving both time and money. Teens and adults can often wear the aligners and treatment usually takes a year. However, some teen patients may require up to 18 months.
What Should I Choose?
You will need to speak with your dentist or orthodontics. After taking into account the severity of your misalignment, the dentist will decide whether Clear Aligner Systems is your best option. Otherwise, you may need metal orthodontics to correct misalignment. By addressing your alignment issues you can enjoy a healthier and more attractive smile.
