Answer Key
- True. Your teeth are made from multiple layers. The outermost is the enamel, a hard substance that protects the inner layers of dentin and pulp from damage and harmful bacteria. However, when you chip, break, or wear down a tooth then bacteria can reach the dentin. The resulting decay can spread through the dentin as the cavity grows. The innermost layer, or pulp, keeps the tooth alive and healthy. Once bacteria reach the pulp, an infection can develop that threatens the integrity of the tooth.
