Do you wish you had a more beautiful smile? Do you have teeth that have poor esthetics due to chips or being malformed? If so, then you need cosmetic treatment to improve the esthetic appeal of your smile. We have a number of procedures available to improve the beauty of your teeth, such as veneers and bonding. Which one do you need, veneers or dental bonding?
Porcelain Veneers
These are restorations made from very thin shells of porcelain. They are placed onto the front of the teeth, changing the appearance of the smile. The procedure begins with the dentist removing a thin layer of enamel. Impressions are then taken. Using impressions, a dental lab designs and fabricates the restoration. After checking the fit the doctor will use an adhesive agent to attach the veneers. We may recommend this restoration to:
- Fixed chipped teeth
- Reshape malformed teeth
- Address gaps between teeth
- Improve the appearance of minor alignment issues
- Mask permanent teeth stains
Cosmetic Bonding
This procedure also changes the shape and appearance of the tooth. However, instead of restorations the procedure uses a composite resin, the same one we use for white fillings. The doctor applies the material in multiple layers, sculpting the tooth as the resin cures under a special light. The entire procedure takes a single visit. We can use this procedure to:
- Repair chipped teeth or reshape malformed teeth
- Close any gaps between the teeth
- Cover permanent teeth stains
Which is Most Appropriate for Your Smile?
That depends on a number of factors. If you don’t have time for multiple procedures you may prefer bonding, since veneers may require two or more visits. However, restorations are often considered a more lifelike alternative. If cost is an issue then you may prefer a bonding procedure to a restoration.
