What Is CEREC?
CEREC is a technology that utilizes Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM). When your dentist uses CEREC, they’ll begin designing your new crown by taking 3-D images of your damaged tooth. After importing these images into the CEREC system, your dentist will construct the dental crown through the CAD software. Upon completion, the crown is then manufactured right there in your dentists office!
What Are The Benefits Of CEREC Crowns?
- Saves Time
As previously mentioned, regularly, dental crowns take two appointments to place (which can sometimes be over ten days apart). With CEREC crowns, your dentist places your new crown within the same day, all it takes is a couple of hours!
- No Temporary Crown
Usually, in between your two appointments while waiting for your crown to be molded, your dentist will place a temporary crown to momentarily protect your damaged tooth. But, when you’re able to have the crown placed in the same day, you can forego the temporary crown altogether!
- Digital Construction (No Impressions)
With regular crowns, your dentist needs to take an impression in order to mold your crown to the shape of your tooth. However, these impressions can get messy and many patients find them (temporarily) uncomfortable. With this new technology, you don’t have to deal with any impressions because your dental crown is digitally constructed.
