On Tuesday, we discussed when a patient might consider seeking cosmetic treatment. Today, we’re going to look at our cosmetic treatments and explain how they can improve the appearance of your smile. Remember, you can start the process of improving your smile by scheduling a free cosmetic consultation. We can then let you know if you need cosmetic dentistry to enjoy a beautiful, healthy smile.
Brightening Teeth
If you have stained teeth we have a few options to help. For most discoloration we can recommend teeth whitening. After an initial office treatment, we send the patient home with a set of trays and a bleaching gel. The patient fills the trays with gel and wears them for a set amount of time each day for between a week and ten days, Finally, we perform one last office treatment.
However, if you have permanent discoloration then teeth whitening may not address the issue completely. For the rear teeth, we can mask stains with dental bonding, coating teeth in the same material we use for white fillings. For the front facing teeth, we can place veneers, which completely change the shade and shape of the teeth.
Reshaping Teeth
If you have damaged teeth, or if they are malformed, we can use a restoration to reshape them. Dental bonding can repair minor chips and close gaps between teeth. Dental contouring can dull overly pointed teeth or address minor issues with shape in a single visit. We can use ceramic crowns and porcelain veneers to address serious damage and provide lifelike smile improvement.
Maintaining Your New Smile
Once we perform a cosmetic treatment, then what? How do you ensure your smile maintains these new results? First, we recommend caring for your smile from home brushing and floss daily. You should also see your dentist cone every six months for a checkup and cleaning. The doctor can then treat problems in the earliest stages and ensure your smile continues to maintain its optimal appearance.
