Frequently Asked Questions About Porcelain Veneers
Question: Can they brighten my smile?
Answer: Yes. We can place them to brighten teeth that have intrinsic teeth stains. Unlike normal surface stains, these form in the dentin beneath the enamel, often the result of injury, fluorosis, or the use of certain medications, such as tetracycline. These stains may not respond to traditional teeth whitening solutions, which is why we may recommend a restoration.
Question: Can you use them to reshape teeth?
Answer: Yes. If you chip or break a tooth, or if your tooth is worn down or malformed, veneers can change the appearance. We often use them for patients that have multiple issues with their smile, such as color, shape, or even if they have gaps between teeth or minor misalignment.
Question: How are they placed?
Answer: First, the doctor prepares the tooth by removing a small layer of enamel. Detailed impressions are then taken and the restoration is created using CEREC technology. The dentist will then check the fit and make any necessary adjustments to the restoration. Finally, the veneer is applied to the tooth using a powerful bonding agent, securing it for decades.
Question: What material are they made from?
Answer: We create them using porcelain. This material mimics the appearance of natural tooth enamel and is also stain-resistant. Porcelain is also very strong, able to withstand serious bite forces.
