How Does a Crown Work?
A crown fits over the visible portions of your tooth. We can use them to protect the remaining natural structure of a tooth by safeguarding the tooth against further damage, decay, or infection. They can last for decades and are very strong. We use a lifelike porcelain material, which is stain-resistant, can be shaded to better blend with your smile, and can withstand powerful bite forces.
When Should We Receive One?
We recommend them for teeth that have become broken or develop a fracture. They can also address serious cases of tooth decay and complete root canal procedures. If you are missing a tooth, then we can use them to anchor a bridge in place or to restore a single tooth dental implant.
How Long Does Placement Take?
Placement only takes a single visit. In the past, receiving a restoration meant two to three visits. Now, we prepare the tooth and then take detailed digital impressions. The impressions are used to design the restoration, which is the uploaded into a CEREC machine. CEREC using CAD/CAM technology to mill the tooth from a solid block of ceramic in a single visit. We then check the fit, make any necessary adjustments, and place the crown with a powerful bonding agent.
