Community Events
- Maple Syrup Making: The Whitewater State Park will be offering Maple Syrup Making for he While Family on Saturday March 4th, Saturday March 11th and Saturday March 18th. Your family can learn about the history of syrup and sugar making and find out more about the equipment and procedures used in the process. You will have the chance to tap trees, gather and boil sap, and taste your completed syrup. You should register beforehand by emailing sara.holger@state.mn.us or by calling 507-932-3007 (extension 226).
- International Owl Festival: You can enjoy Houston Minnesota’s International Owl Festival from March 3rd until the 5th. You and your family can learn a lot about owls with live owl programs, owl prowls, and other events. For the kids, there will be storytime, owl nest box construction, an owl calling competition, and pellet dissection. Your family can also enjoy a pancake breakfast. You will need a daily admission sticker. Admission for adults is $8, kids 3 and under are free and kids ages 4 to 17 are $5. If you are a member of the International Owl Center, admission is free.
- Cave Tour and Hike: Quarry Hill Park will be offering a cave tour and historical hike on the former grounds of the Rochester State Hospital on February 29th.
